Oooo, the sunlight really shows off the deathly pallor of my skin! And under fluorescent light I am noticeably green...

I joined Polyvore recently and I'm trying to figure out how to keep sets from autoposting to my blog... I unclick the check box but it uploads all the same. 0~0

DIY: Choker

I said I was going to do it, and here it is:

The Original
My mother mentioned she actually almost didn't buy the necklace for my birthday because she did not like the black heart pendant; it looked "tart." I told her I was already planning to change it as the heavy pendant wasn't correct for the lace anyway. I crisscrossed the chains near the center an moved the other chains around as well, making everything symmetrical. I would be irritated if it wasn't symmetrical.
The Update
Because the lace was two whole inches larger than my neck needed, and I didn't have the proper tools to shorten it, I attached nail polish coated 1/8 oz. lead fishing sinkers to the chain to drag it down my back. It works well! Detail:

Style- Dentist Visit

I passed with flying colors, BTW. :-P
I needed something simple- what is more simple than a tank and jeans? Individualism is added with a scarf.

Ombre scarf, self-made choker, Mossimo tank, altered Merona jeans, Merona flats

Eighteen Candles On My Cake

I had a lot of fun tonight. My family took me to a vegan Vietnamese restaurant, which even my dad (a "bacon! pork! beef!" person) enjoyed. The Gluten-Free chocolate cake my mother baked is awesome. She decorated it with mint-colored butter-cream icing, her specialty, and some of my pansies (which are edible flowers, BTW). I've compiled photos of most of what I received, minus the OMG JUSTIN BEIBER PIL-POW AND ALARM CLOCK! Aiiiiiii!!!

(Please re-read above with a heaping helping of sarcasm.)

Let me clarify.
It is a long running tradition in our family that a birthday present (usually the first) is a gag gift. It started when my father generously gave my brother a Bag of Farts, a garbage bag he blew up and tied off. Last year I gave my brother an old shoebox filled with his own Legos, labeled "Box of Parts". So knowing what I think (or maybe, don't think) of Justin Beiber, it was a PERFECT gag. Oh, I love them.

Now, to what I actually got:
Lace, chain, and enamel heart choker (to be DIY'd, in a succeeding post)
key-shaped charms
Merona bangle-bracelet watch
OPI nail polish in Malaga Wine and Black Cherry Chutney
China Glaze Magnetix in Pull Me Close and magnets

ombre scarf

Mossimo shrug

My mother also rented Animal Farm and 1984 from the library, which I have been trying to get my hands on for a while. I just finished Animal Farm- it's a very quick read!

Bad Romance: Women's Suffrage

I found this while looking at Beribboned Cupcakes and Tattooed Bats, and I had to share! It's so, so well done.

Style- Teal Sky

After spending the day in the garden, helping plant two roses and tearing out the root system of a "fake orange" bush, I had to change into something airy and light. It's amazing what roots will do in eighteen years.
Which reminds me! I'm counting down the days to March 16th, my eighteenth birthday!

Vintage silk blouse, thrifted Calvin Klein shorts, Merona gladiators.

I am The Cat Whisperer

I need a bit of a break from fashion, so I'll post about something out of the ordinary that happened!

About three weeks ago my brother and I were digging up rose bushes for my mother when he spotted a large black cat at the end of our street and pointed it out to me. I love cats, so I quietly walked over to see if I could make friends with it. It was tagless, what my mother calls "wild domestic": not an alley cat, but a house cat turned onto the streets. It was a long haired angora, with beautiful soft fur. I coaxed it into the house where I gave it some food and water, and later we turned in over to the animal shelter, where they will probably adopt it out immediately. It was really sweet!

This wasn't an isolated incident- I have tamed birds and other cats- and due to this my mother has taken to introducing me to as follows: "This is my daughter, Merrihel. She's like Snow White with the animals- she tames them and they come to her. Like Gisele in Enchanted!"

Steampunk Quiz, What Fun!

I'm fascinated by the steampunk genre of literature, clothing, and decor; so is my brother. This quiz is pretty straightforward and not at all goofy like some can be. This is what I got- I must say I agree with it...

Your result for The Steampunk Style Test...

The Air Pirate

25% Elegant, 31% Technological, 23% Historical, 56% Adventurous and 63% Playful!
You are the Air Pirate, the embodiment of steampunk fantasy. Admittedly, you would probably be more comfortable in a pulp adventure or Eberron fantasy, but you are able to find your niche in the less serious side of the genre. You are probably somewhat light on your technological accessories, but the ones that you do carry have a roguish dash to them. Your clothes are most likely styled after those of Victorian aristocrats or loyal airship officers, the better to show off your wealth and the spoils of your raids. Chances are you prefer to be flashy and extravagant, and frock coats are perfect.

Style: Dark Romance

My brother tells me I look like a vampire hunter today, especially when I put on my black hoodie. We stopped by my mother's plot in the community garden and planted some vegetable and herb seeds, then did the shopping. So all around a busy afternoon!

Fred David button-down, Susie Rose belt, thrifted vintage DKNY skirt, Merona boots, black tights, Kohl's pewter choker and self made faux pearl and bead choker.

Simple makeup today- sunscreen (always!), concealer and powder, and my favourite lipstick, L'Oreal Infallible in Bold Bordeaux.
