Makeup: Merrihel's Monster

*Starring the Gloombat*

Zombie makeup is good anytime of year!
Green, grey, and purple shadows on face; pink, purple, green, blue, and charcoal shadows on eyes; purple lipstick, gray, purple, and blue shadows on mouth. He also had fake blood dribbling down his chin.

While we were checking out lighting, Gloombat had the camera slung around his neck, claiming to be a zombie journalist interviewing me for "The Apocalypse Times." Questions ran along lines important to this era in America, such as, "Whhhacktz urG pinyak onrgins Riiiiptz Monrgonlaoi?" and "Migzzz plaggrg tik urG plaxgalk?" (Translation for non-Ghoulish speakers: What's your opinion of Mitt Romney? May I please take your picture?)

His tee, belt, jeans and shoes, my shirt worn as jacket.

AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!
By far my favorite photo.

Eleven Things About Me:
  1. I learned to dive at four years old.
  2. I taught myself to draw and sketch.
  3. My age is almost never guessed correctly. If I'm not twenty, I must be thirteen.
  4. I look freakishly like my maternal grandmother. Except I'm eight inches taller.
  5. When I'm reading it takes a bomb going off to get my nose out of the book. Even that method's iffy.
  6. I attract cats and dogs like a human magnet.
  7. I draw clothing inspiration from Maleficent/Carabosse.
  8. I get really, really excited for thunderstorms. Early-birthday excited.
  9. I have a weak spot for historical biographies. Lawrence of Arabia et al.
  10. I have hypersensitive hearing...
  11. ...and sense of smell. My father said, not completely exaggerating, that I "could smell a hummingbird fart in a headwind at three hundred yards."

Questions I Was Asked:
  1. Do you have any tattoos (if not, what would you have) and what do they mean? No, I don't.
  2. What was the last book you read? Jane Eyre
  3. Do you have a motto? "I can't die before I'm meant to."
  4. What website do you spend the most time on? My own blog.
  5. What was your last purchase? Buy two-get one free earrings at Claire's.
  6. What do you give the most priority to in life? Loving my family.
  7. What would your last words be? "I'm thrilled."
  8. Describe your perfect romantic date. Going up to Jink's Lake, having a picnic, and camping under the stars. Home the next day.
  9. What was the best live gig you ever saw? True story: never seen a live show! O_O
  10. What was the last nightmare you had? Freddy Kreuger was chasing me around. Even though I kept shooting him with RPGs and portable rocket launchers, he just wouldn't stay down! Finally I had to concentrate and wake myself up.
  11. Do you have any phobias? Not any more, but I have been terrified to fainting of blood, straight razors, the dark, spiders, heights, and rollercoasters.

I'm Tagging:
  1. Madame Noir
  2. Mary Rose
  3. Juliet's Lace
  4. Dolly Rocker Girl
  5. Dismantlynn
  6. Boots
I know, I know- cheating! But I've run out of people!

Questions To Answer:
  1. What is your all-time favorite movie?
  2. Favorite book?
  3. Do you have a hidden talent?
  4. What is your preferred method of getting around town?
  5. What are your favorite colors,
  6. and do you often wear them?
  7. Cosmetic you have to have to apply before leaving the house?
  8. Favorite Disney villian?
  9. How has your style changed in the last five years?
  10. What matters most to you in life, right now?
  11. Do you fear death?

Revlon Lip Butter Review

As promised, a review of of my new Revlon Lip Butter!
I bought Red Velvet... I wanted a lighter alternative to my L'Oreal Infallible lipstick in time for summer. For a few minutes, I was torn between this color and Sugar Plum, an apparently lovely deep purple. Glad I chose this one for its color similarity to my Bold Bordeaux, because on looking up Sugar Plum swatches online it appears to share the failing of many purple lip colors- no opacity!
I love Red Velvet's color and texture; it has deep pigmentation and a nice sheen to it! One drawback is application- the bullet is bulky and thick, making direct tube application imprecise. However, a lip brush alleviates this.
The other drawback is durability; it IS a lip balm after all. A few hours or a snack later and it's gone.

Red Velvet alone
A good way to fix this? Wear it over lipstain! I own Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain in Twilight, a deep berry. The colors complement each other, the moisturizers in the Butter work against the stain drying your lips out, and the stain provides long lasting color and something to anchor the Butter!
Red Velvet and Twilight

Now I'll go buy some more spray paint for my headstone project. I ran out halfway through! :-P

Style- Jackdaw Plumes

A grand pooh-bah at work was visiting our store today, which meant one of the managers was running around spiffing everyone up. I got to wear a patent leather corset-type belt I've had my eye on! (We had to return our borrowed feathers before we went home, of course.)

Thrifted H&M tee, no-name skirt, and Nine West stilettos, Susie Rose belt

Style- Clean Black on White

I can't think of much of anything interesting to write... I've had a few days off work so I've been remodeling my room. Among other things I'm working on a DIY cardboard-gravestone-headboard; maybe I'll make a post about that later! And, I think, a review of my new Revlon Lip Butter is in store.

The weather's really starting to heat up, making all black outfits and avoiding sunlight difficult. I'm turning to black high-waisted shorts and massive amounts of sunscreen until autumn!

Lace trimmed tee, thrifted shorts and H&M vest, Merona shoes.

Style- I have butterflies, and they're not on my sleeve.

This is easily the gothiest I've dressed for work, and I'm ever-so-slightly concerned about how it will go over. Probably just fine; I don't think I'm the only goth there. Anyway, I've worn each of these pieces to work, just not in combination!

Faded Glory tee, thrifted Cato skirt, Merona shoes, Claire's choker and rings.

Artwork: The Mad Bride

Auto-corrected photo
This blushing- well, consumptive- bride hails from the same weird, fantastical corner of my brain as Lunatica, Witch of Madness.
She's three parts Miss Havisham, one part "what if Lorna Doone died anyway" and one part Emily, the Corpse Bride. She's sweet and thoughtful, offering everyone she meets tea, followed by a polite, "Do you take arsenic or cyanide?"
No one really knows how died (ergo, I haven't made a backstory yet), but her white satin gloves are stained incurably with Someone's blood, and her white gown is now grey and tattered.
Oh yes, and if you look closely, you can make out the tiny bat on her teacup!

Original
I'm working on another of her so I could upgrade her dress, closer to my original idea. I am also adding background decor- she's sitting in a iron work chair like you might find in an old-fashioned ice cream shop, except the back is a skull!

Style- Behold, Red & Black Week, and my first foray thereinto!

After weeks of not-very-gothy dressing for work- I don't want to shake up my managers too much- it's great to go all out!

The shirt is far less pink than the photos show... but that's what happens with unpredictable natural lighting!

Merona shirt and jeans; thrifted vest; thifted Nine West stilettos; Claire's choker (altered), leather and metal rose cuff, and spiderweb fingerless gloves; self-made magnetic bracelet.

I did my nails specially for the R&B Week- it's a red (OPI's Malaga Wine) and deepest plum (OPI's Black Cherry Chutney) French manicure. My lipstick, which isn't very obvious, is two tone: plum on top (Revlon's Va Va Violet) and burgundy on bottom (L'Oreal Infallible in Bold Bordeaux).
